Mangar International: Who We Are

You may be familiar with who we are and what we do, but if not here's some information on the company and its history to fill you in.

Mangar International is a family-owned British company based in rural Mid-Wales. Established as a small cottage industry in 1981, Mangar International has grown to become a market leader in products to help people living safely and independently in their own home, exporting products to every continent of the globe.

It is often cited that "Necessity is the Mother of Invention" and that has certainly proved true for David Garman, Founder and Chairman of the company. Caring for his own elderly relative who could not get in and out of the bath, David worried daily about lifting someone so frail, wet, slippery and frightened. Bathing became a risky and distressing experience for both.

Research at the time showed limited, undignified options, so David decided he could do better and invented the Mangar Bathlift, the world's first powered, structured bathlift. Over a quarter of a century later thousands still rely confidently on this and other Mangar products every single day.

Since inventing the Mangar bathlift all those years ago our Research and Development department, still led by David, has produced an impressive portfolio of products and picked up a significant collection of awards along the way. In fact only last year the company's most prized accolade yet was awarded to David by the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA). To acknowledge David's contribution to the healthcare and rehabilitation industry over the past 27 years, he was presented with the BHTA's Lifetime Service Award at a glitzy award dinner in Westminster. The Lifetime Service Award is reserved for those few people who have made the greatest impact on the healthcare and rehabilitation industry, and is the best award the industry can bestow upon one of its members.
